Educational Programs

DOCENT PROGRAM.  Specially trained Guild members visit Austin and surrounding area elementary schools to introduce ballet to the students. The multifaceted presentations cover the history of ballet, the similarities of a dancer to other professional athletes, the life and training of a dancer, and the four parts of a ballet: dance, music, drama and decor. The children are told the story of the ballet and are introduced to the characters in order to prepare them for the student performance by Ballet Austin.

SCHOOL SHOWS.  Guild volunteers seat area school children at the Long Center for special Ballet Austin performances.

Guild members assist the Ballet Austin staff with two of their outreach programs:

STUDIO SPOTLIGHT provides a behind-the scenes look at the creative process, with speakers, conversation about the upcoming production, plus a short rehearsal.

FAMILY DANCE WORKSHOPS are aimed at children 3-12 years of age, providing children with a greater familiarity and comfort with the elements of dance and the specific stories related to upcoming Ballet performances. The goal is to create an emjoyable experience for children that develops an early love for the ballet. Volunteers help with interactive activities.
